吊足了的胃最終吃了一頓飽飯。在一片狼籍的中國電影飯桌，英雄是一道真正的招牌菜。
集中了華人乃至世界頂尖的製作群體，投入3000萬美金，英雄成為我所見過製作最為精良的中國電影。很久沒有一部中國電影讓眼睛，耳朵如此興奮了。張藝謀的專業精神令人敬佩，如果誰要向張藝謀豎中指，還是先鞠個躬再說。
看過片子絕對同意這種評價：英雄是一場視覺上的盛宴。我覺得如果早些時候拍出來，英雄還可以拿去做申奧片。所有關於中國的符號，英雄里都不遺餘力地再現：圍棋，書法，劍，古琴，山水，竹簡，弓箭，威威樓宇，漫漫黃沙，青山碧水，紅牆綠瓦。英雄電影的畫面，極具中國畫的意境。如果不去做申奧片，英雄還可以去做中國旅遊的廣告片，或是愛國主義教育範本，的確，我相信每個看過電影的都會為我大好江山，我泱泱大國擊節贊嘆，相信這部電影全球放映後，會加快留學人員歸國效力，加大各國人民來華旅遊觀光力度。
有幾個鏡頭給人留下強烈印像：李連傑一劍刺中甄子丹，為描述劍之快，鏡頭在李連傑的臉一點點穿破雨水的畫面中一一定格。李連傑與梁朝偉在九寨溝一場對決戲，二人蜻蜓點水，水面及水下的鏡頭，絕對可以寫入武俠片視覺經典。我也相信很多人在章子怡和張曼玉比劍那段漫天黃葉的戲中瞠目結舌，盡管那段戲倒更像屬於日本人的意境。
在聽覺方面，英雄把武俠片的音效提升到一個新的境界，不再像以往武俠片強調刀劍，拳腳，飛行的強烈誇張表現，相反，英雄的錄音和擬音方面都相當克制，他們更重視體現"綿長""幽遠"的意境，更強調聲音的質感。這些克制後表達出的竟境令人大開"耳"界。在影院，正對畫面，背景聲安靜得像清澈的湖水，在一片衣袍揮舞和鼓聲的中低音中，劍聲劃破空氣的銳響，配合人影騰挪的聲音，槍劍相撞後的漸弱的震顫聲，極富韌性極具質感。讓人印像深刻的是為描述李連傑劍法之准，他一劍橫貫毛筆，從劈裂筆桿竹質到筆尖毛質聲音的變化。還有在九寨溝對決的劍戲，人腳踏在平靜的水面聲，劍挑破水，震開的一圈圈漣漪聲，人耳悶在水裡到躍出水面後撲面而來的空氣感。影片配樂依然是譚盾，看到最後，我幾乎有點迷乎了，那鼓聲，琴聲，包括伊扎特帕爾曼的小提琴，都真的很像《卧虎藏龍》。
編劇李馮和張藝謀用紅，蘭，白，黃四段視覺的變化把故事的不同版本分段講述，還加了不少辯析的色彩，這讓人想起《羅生門》。這個故事講得很別致而且基本能自圓其說。再一想到電影的短短的拍攝周期，讓人對老謀子心生敬意。而畫面上，英難更像一部部精美的MTV或廣告片的聯播。
英雄是一部符號化的電影，所有的符號都在傳達一個標識："MADE IN CHINA"。在這樣的視覺聽覺轟炸中，演員的表演成為影片中最為弱化的環節，如果不是出於商業的考慮，估計誰來演都可以完成任務。大牌明星們的表演徘徊在扮酷或更好的扮酷之間，說狠一點，劇本給他們的空間，無法演出"人味兒"，他們的內心活動，表情都不再重要，重要是他們要服從服裝顏色變化的需要，電影的主角是服裝，布景，道具，這些符號代表著忠，義，情。演員是人，但是有一群神一樣的攝影舞美燈光，人便不再是人，是英雄，於是一個歷史故事最終變成一個超現實故事。

Midway through the composition of this essay, I came across Jenny Kwok』s well-researched writings on the genesis and phenomenon of Zhang Yimou』s Hero (2004). In particular, her insight into the Chinese folkloric 「wu xia」 or chivalrous-swordsman fiction presents a fertile angle for criticism of this genre within the poetic (as opposed to sensationalistic) aspect of Hero』s martial arts choreography, framing and editing. Often, Zhang favors close-ups or a series of closer shots of the physical action instead of wide angles –used to show off physics-defying acrobatic firsts– because the martial arts function to a greater degree as metaphors. Nonetheless, an examination of this particular genre is beyond the scope of my essay, so Kwok』s analysis of Hero from the 「wu xia」 angle will more than suffice for now. This essay also forgoes comments on the all-star cast and the Hong Kong actors』 infrequent but detectable slips in their Mandarin accent. Another rain check goes to a critique of the imperfect CG special effects displayed in the Zhao-siege long shots, as compared to say a costlier Ridley Scott Hollywood epic. Furthermore, e to the alist nature of the filmmakers』 intentions –of a blockbuster for the world and a culture-conscious film– Hero』s technical merit, both in its narrative structure and metaphorical showmanship, elevates it to a contemporary masterpiece, not a timeless work of art. Observations of this alism is again credited to Jenny Kwok』s writings from her paper 「Hero: China』s response to Hollywood globalization.」

《英雄》在國內外之大相徑庭的評價和口碑。國內的影評人和觀眾對這部電影多持負面態度，統一的認為這部電影缺少內在精神價值判斷，充斥藝術靈魂的空洞，華麗有餘而內容不足；而西方媒體和觀眾卻視這部電影為神作，例如我一個畫畫的美國朋友認為此片是他看過最好的非英語電影，用「無盡的詩意」和「純粹的藝術想像」去贊譽它。

A most beautifully questionable film--hero

Hero is two sides of a tale as presented by Nameless (Jet Li), a mere Prefect who defeated three deadly assassins, and the King of Qin (Daoming Chen), the man the assassins wished to kill. Nameless weaves his heroic though modest story of how he killed the assassins, but the King remains unconvinced, spinning his own version of how he believed events unfolded.

Hero is undoubtedly a most beautiful and awe inspiring film. What it lacks in plot substance, it makes up for with structure and script. It elaborates on the ground work created by 'Crouching Tiger' and is an experience that I would encourage you to seek out, as long as you are willing to submit to the film and let it guide you through its world on its own terms.

First off, this movie is way better than Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. The fact that it is based on a legend in China makes it even better. Some of the most amazing directing and fight scenes I have ever seen. The fighting is about 95% with swords (Kung Fu wasn't invented until many centuries later) but it is spectacular nonetheless.

Jet Li is a warrior who supposedly has killed three assassins who were trying to kill the emperor. As a reward, he is invited to the emperor's home (it is not really a palace but a big building) and allowed to approach the emperor within 10 paces (nobody else may come within 100 paces).

He is given riches and must tell the tale how he disposed of the 3 assassins. The tale is told 3 different ways. Each time the director uses different colors. First, yellow and red, then green, and finally white. Each story is very different. The tension builds to a highly climatic and unexpected ending.
