影片中還有一位主要人物是上校丹。他在越南戰爭中失去了雙腿。他說他的命運就是戰死。然而阿甘卻救他，讓他活了下來。失去雙腿後他開始憎恨生活，生活得很頹廢，責怪阿甘當初救了他。然而當他調整心態，去和阿甘一起捕魚生活，有了收獲後，開始感覺到生活的美好。感謝阿甘當初就了他。
