《刮痧》這部電影重點不是講怎麼刮痧，刮痧有什麼好處，而是講因為刮痧致使一個家庭經歷具體的苦難。電腦游戲設計師許大同與妻子簡寧在美國奮鬥了8年，事業有成。一次意外卻令美好的家庭變得愁雲慘霧：5歲的兒子生病了，老父親用傳統的中國民間刮痧幫孫子治病。大同夫妻繼而被控告虐待兒童，一個又一個物證人證令夫妻倆百口莫辯，西醫根本無法了解這種傳統中國療法。因為這件事，父子與夫妻都不得已的分開了。聖誕節那天，門衛不讓大同去家裡見簡寧和他兒子，無奈之下，他只好冒著生命危險爬水管爬上九樓，並在那晚法院撤銷了對撫養孩子的審判，最終皆大歡喜。
觀看這部電影時，給我最大的感觸就是中西文化的差異。老父親是愛他的孫子的，他孫子生病了老父親給他刮痧，在背上留下的痕跡卻被人認為是這孩子受了虐待，這是美國人不懂得刮痧是什麼造成的；對待孩子的問題上，中國人將孩子當做是自己的私人財產，可以隨時對孩子進行管教，但在美國，孩子卻被當成是社會財產，一旦孩子受了傷害，孩子的父母就會被剝奪撫養權，由兒童福利中心進行養育，在大同的頒獎會上，他的兒子打了他老闆的兒子，大同讓他兒子道歉，但他卻不道歉，大同打了一下他兒子的頭，大同認為這是對他老闆的尊重，當然，中國人大多都是這樣，在不分三七二十一先打了自己的孩子再說，這表示自己沒有教養好，打孩子是對別人的尊重，但美國人卻不這么認為，他的老闆看到大同打他兒子表示很驚訝，並且認為教養孩子跟尊重他人沒有關系。大同為了給他的父親辦綠卡，在聽證會上說了是他給他的兒子刮痧的，老父親知道了這件事後，他自己一個人到了大同老闆昆蘭的家裡，跟他講了是他刮痧的，而不是大同，昆蘭問簡寧為什麼大同要說是他刮痧的，簡寧回了他一句：因為他是中國人。這些都是中西文化碰撞後產生的火花！
