1914年2月，查理主演的處女片上映，影片取名《謀生》 盡管此片由於導演的無能而令查理大失所望，但觀眾還是喜愛這部片子的。之後他又拍了幾部片，增長了不少學識。公眾喜愛他，並且電影銷售商索要越來越多的卓別林的片子，在極短的時間內，他成了電影界的重要人物
