哈利波特創作背景：

根據作者J·K·羅琳的介紹，這個故事的靈感是1991年她在從曼徹斯特到倫敦的火車上萌發出的。她當時經常在愛迪安堡的一家咖啡館中撰寫第一集小說。

盡管J·K·羅琳一再說明，在開始寫哈利·波特系列小說時沒有針對特定年齡層讀者的想法，但是出版社在出版第一部的時候，顯然把讀者群定位在9到15歲的青少年。
