課程開始之際，就如何使學習英語的任務更容易提出一些建議似乎正當其時。
Some Strategies or Learning English
 學習英語絕非易事。它需要刻苦和長期努力。
 雖然不經過持續的刻苦努力便不能期望精通英語，然而還是有各種有用的學習策略可以用來使這一任務變得容易一些。以下便是其中的幾種。
1. 不要以完全同樣的方式對待所有的生詞。你可曾因為簡直無法記住所學的所有生詞而抱怨自己的記憶力太差？其實，責任並不在你的記憶力。如果你一下子把太多的生詞塞進頭腦，必定有一些生詞會被擠出來。你需要做的是根據生詞日常使用的頻率以不同的方式對待它們。積極詞彙需要經常練習，有用的詞彙必須牢記，而在日常情況下不常出現的詞只需見到時認識即可。你會發現把注意力集中於積極有用的詞上是擴大詞彙量最有效的途徑。
2．密切注意地道的表達方式。你可曾納悶過，為什麼我們說 "我對英語感興趣"是"I'm interested in English"，而說"我精於法語"則是"I'm good at French"？你可曾問過自己，為什麼以英語為母語的人說"獲悉消息或秘密"是"learn the news or secret"，而"獲悉某人的成功或到來"卻是"learn of someone's success or arrival"？這些都是慣用法的例子。在學習英語時，你不僅必須注意詞義，還必須注意以英語為母語的人在日常生活中如何使用它。
3．每天聽英語。經常聽英語不僅會提高你的聽力，而且有助你培養說的技能。除了專為課程准備的語言磁帶外，你還可以聽英語廣播，看英語電視和英語電影。第一次聽錄好音的英語對話或語段，你也許不能聽懂很多。先試著聽懂大意，然後再反復地聽。你會發現每次重復都會聽懂更多的東西。
4．抓住機會說。的確，在學校里必須用英語進行交流的場合並不多，但你還是可以找到練習講英語的機會。例如，跟你的同班同學進行交談可能就是得到一些練習的一種輕松愉快的方式。還可以找校園里以英語為母語的人跟他們隨意交談。或許練習講英語最容易的方式是高聲朗讀，因為這在任何時間，任何地方，不需要搭檔就可以做到。例如，你可以看著圖片或身邊的物件，試著對它們詳加描述。你還可以復述日常情景。在商店裡購物或在餐館里吃完飯付過賬後，假裝這一切都發生在一個講英語的國家，試著用英語把它表演出來。

6．經常寫。寫作是練習你已經學會的東西的好方法。除了老師布置的作文，你還可以找到自己要寫的理由。有個筆友可以提供很好的動力；與某個跟你趣味相投但來自不同文化的人進行交流，你會學到很多東西。經常寫作的其他方式還有記日記，寫小故事或概述每天的新聞。

Learning English is by no means easy. It takes great diligence and prolonged effort.
