这部电影主要说的是：神偷格鲁收养了三个孤女，想要利用他们偷走另一个坏蛋维克多的缩小射线枪，然后再利用缩小射线枪去偷月亮。
开始的时候， 格鲁对三个小女孩一点也不好，比如： 三个小女儿让他讲睡前故事，他不讲，还说忙；让他买玩具，他说不买。但是三个小女孩用自己的天真、可爱感动了格鲁。后来，他给女孩讲睡前故事，主动去吻他们，还给她们买玩具。
格鲁偷到缩小射线枪后，坐着火箭出发了。到了月亮上，把月亮缩小成了鸡蛋般大小，拿了回来。而一直与格鲁作对的维克多已经把三个小女孩抓走了。因为他已经发现了格鲁从不喜欢小女孩到喜欢她们了。于是，维克多想用小女孩威胁格鲁。格鲁知道后，就去救她们。维克多要求格鲁用月亮交换小女孩。对格鲁来说，现在小女孩比月亮更珍贵，于是他就把月亮给了维克多。但是，维克多并不把女孩们还给格鲁。经过斗争，月亮越变越大，他压碎了控制小女孩的水晶球。女孩们得救了，维克多却被送到了月亮上面去。
