ROCKY，他原本只是一个打黑拳，替大佬收取保护费的一个小人物，一次偶然的机会，遇到了自己的恩师，曾经拳坛传奇人物——米奇，是米奇告诉他，一名真正的拳手，应该是在擂台上获得胜利，而绝非是这种黑色拳赛中的称霸。

获得成功是百分之九十九的努力，加上百分之一的机遇。或许是上帝的眷顾，ROCKY 迎来了那个改变他一生的“百分之一”，拳王阿波罗向ROCKY发出挑战，作为男人，对胜利的渴望，让他应下了这场无人看好的比赛，于是电影就在激昂的背景音乐下开始上演了ROCKY艰苦而又严格的训练。
